Self Portrait with Theorbo (2019)

Premiered at Leon Gallery for Kaitlyn Tucek’s ‘Over/Look’ show, Aug 30, 2019, Denver.

Self Portrait with Theorbo is a video performance of a new music composition for large Renaissance-era lute. Infused into the piece are quotations from Barbara Strozzi. Strozzi, like so many women, queer composers, and composers of color, has been largely left out of classical music history. This work offers a moment to show that her work (and others too often-forgotten) still inspires.
