Fish Factory (2020)
fixed media sound collage 16’ loop
Composed for and with additional direction by Philipp Valenta, for the solo exhibition Fjármálahlóð (The Sound of Finance); first exhibit: Wolfsburg, Germany.
Fish Factory is an ambient soundtrack that collages, loops, and processes sounds recorded in the fish factory of Seyðisfjörður, East Iceland. A surprisingly relaxing and ephemeral soundscape comes into earshot every now and then, despite being made from less than savory samples of the daily activities of fish-processing: bone-sawing, ice-dumping, boxing and crating, and power tools.
The soundscape is the undercurrent to the solo exhibition of artist Philipp Valenta, whose work explores the economy of Iceland into visual and sonic works.
I also performed one of Valenta’s graphic scores on solo piano that appears in the exhibition.
The work was also documented in a catalogue by the artist and sponsored by Volkswagen.
