A Stone’s Throw (2022)
graphic score installation with live performance, texts, and video; durations variable.
A Stone’s Throw is a collection of small works as a response to a one-month residency at Bunnell Street Arts Center in Homer, Alaska. While there I learned about the ecology of the town and the culture of its residents. I met with local artists, musicians, and LGBTQ residents to learn about their perspectives on their home, which is full of contrasts: the solitude of winter and the hyper-tourism of summer; the small queer scene there and the liberal arts orgs in contrast to the conservatism of the fishing industry and nearby religious sects. I recorded the sounds of the bay, of wildlife, and of hyper-local sounds (wind on the roof, the tsunami siren, and even sonified shrimp noises) and made graphic scores and performances to give back to residents. Graphic scores were made primarily with pigments and objects on site- clay, coal, grass, seawater, and pebbles.
