(Un)quiet Sun (2020)

surround-sound electronics and planetarium dome video 5’

Commissioned by Playground Ensemble, premiered Feb 2020 Fort Collins Museum of Discovery Otterbox dome, Fort Collins, CO.

This work evokes the regular oscillations flowing inside the Sun, which we are slowly learning about through the field of helioseismology. To illuminate these folding and unfolding patterns, we hear 5.1 surround sounds bubble, slide, and drone around the space. The viewer is enveloped in close-up and distant footage of the surface of the Sun, all taken from NASA.

Dome version below, within Playground Ensemble’s concert (begin at 12:55).
